Traffic Advisory Issued Ahead of Harambee Stars Clash with Gambia at Kasarani

Nairobi residents have been warned to expect major traffic disruptions along Thika Road on Friday, September 5, as thousands of fans head to the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, for Kenya’s World Cup Qualifier against Gambia.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the National Police Service (NPS) announced temporary road closures and diversions to facilitate movement to and from the stadium. Motorists were urged to plan ahead, use designated alternative routes, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations. Police also confirmed that roadblocks would be mounted at the Muthaiga and Ruiru interchanges to regulate traffic flow and prevent congestion.

For Nairobi residents travelling from the Central Business District (CBD) to destinations along Thika Road—including Juja, Ruiru, and Thika Town, police advised motorists to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4. Those heading to Mwiki were directed to take the Ruaka-Baba Dogo-Lucky Summer-Nairobi River route.

Meanwhile, travellers from Thika, Ruiru, and Juja heading into the city centre were advised to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road. For Githurai motorists en route to Nairobi CBD, the recommended diversion is the Githurai 44-Kiambu Road corridor.

Supporters travelling from Nairobi CBD to Kasarani Stadium will be required to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8. Police emphasised that these measures were meant to ensure smoother traffic management while accommodating the large number of fans expected to attend the crucial match.

“The National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi. Motorists are advised to cooperate with officers on site to ensure safety and smooth flow of traffic,” the NPS statement read in part.
