Matiang’i: Kenya Drifting Wrong Path Ahead of By-elections

The 2027 Jubilee Party presidential nominee, Fred Matiang’i, has cautioned that the country is headed towards the wrong direction heading into the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-elections across the earmarked areas.

Speaking in a local radio interview on Monday, November 24, 2025, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary said there is a need to retrace the steps as a nation ahead of the democratic exercise. Fred Matiang’i held a candid conversation about the most pressing issues ahead of Thursday’s polls.

Matiang’i’s call comes after opposition leaders have been targeted by violent youth while on campaign trails, drumming up support for their candidates vying for different leadership positions in the forthcoming by-elections. On Saturday, November 22, 2025, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s motorcade was attacked by unknown people while on a campaign in Chwele Kabuchai, Bungoma County.

It is clear that our nation is drifting down the wrong path, and we must commit to the hard work of steering it back on track,” Matiang’i said.

While addressing residents of Ikonge Market, Nyamira County, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, ahead of Thursday’s election activities, Matiang’i called out the government for employing coercion tactics in favour of their candidates in the particular mini polls.

Fred Matiang’i was joined by United Opposition Principals, Martha Karua (People’s Liberation Party), Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya and Spokesperson Dr Mukhisa Kituyi across Nyamira County, to drum up support for Member of County Assembly candidate Jeremiah Ongaro ahead of Thursday’s by-election.
