KWS Officer Rescued From Suspected Robbers in Kinoo

A dramatic rescue operation unfolded in Kinoo, Kiambu County, on Monday, October 6, 2025, after police saved a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer from suspected robbers who had tied him up and locked him inside the boot of a vehicle.

According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the operation began after officers received a report from members of the public about a suspicious vehicle parked by the roadside. Responding swiftly, officers from the local police station traced the vehicle and approached it for inspection. However, upon noticing the police, the occupants attempted to speed away, prompting a high-speed chase through Kinoo’s busy streets.

“Upon approaching the vehicle, its occupants attempted to flee. After a chase, two suspects were arrested,” part of the police report read.

When the vehicle was finally intercepted, officers made a shocking discovery — a man tied up, blindfolded, and struggling for air inside the car’s boot. He was immediately rescued and identified as a KWS officer who had been travelling to Nairobi before being abducted by the gang.

The officer, who was visibly shaken, told police that the suspects had robbed him of money from his wallet, although the motive behind the abduction remains unclear. Investigators suspect that the culprits may have been part of a larger criminal syndicate preying on passengers and motorists along the Nairobi–Naivasha highway.

Further searches conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of several stolen mobile phones, which police believe were taken from other victims in recent robberies.

“Investigations are ongoing, with operations underway to apprehend additional suspects who fled the scene,” NPS added.

The National Police Service commended the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism, noting that their timely action likely saved the officer’s life. The two arrested suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full scope of their criminal activities.
