KFS Dismisses Claims of Resumed Construction at Ngong Road Forest Eco-Tourism Site

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has dismissed reports alleging that construction of an eco-tourism site in Ngong Road Forest has resumed.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 15, the agency described circulating videos and photos suggesting the recommencement of the project as “false” and “malicious.”

“KFS has noted false information circulating online regarding resumption of construction of an eco-tourism site, which was halted earlier in the year. This post is completely false and was issued with malicious intent. The Service confirms there are no ongoing construction works in that particular site,” the statement read.

The agency further clarified that only its forest rangers provide security within Ngong Road Forest, dismissing claims that other groups were manning the area. It urged the public to seek clarification directly from KFS regarding activities in gazetted forests.

The eco-tourism project, first introduced under the Ngong Road Forest Green Master Plan, was suspended in May following public uproar. KFS stated that the pause was intended to facilitate further stakeholder engagement.

According to the service, the bush eco-camp was procedurally approved after undergoing environmental assessments that revealed no significant adverse impacts. The master plan, it added, was developed and adopted through intensive public participation.

KFS reiterated its commitment to transparency in managing the country’s forests and assured Kenyans that no unauthorized activities were occurring at the site.
