Kalonzo Musyoka’s Dead Cat Strategy

Kalonzo to Ruto: Singapore dream is a dead cat strategy

Just when you thought Kalonzo Musyoka would come with something towards a new year political shift to be the big challenger for William Ruto in 2027, Steve comes up with something new alright. He has a dead cat in his hands.

“What Ruto has done is to throw a dead cat syndrome on the table.” Kalonzo says.

“Kenya was supposed by 2030 be a middle-income country with its citizens enjoying a high quality of life. How many Kenyans are able to put food on their table even as we go for Christmas? And you want to tell us that you want to take us to Singapore. This is a dead cat strategy,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo claims share of Kibaki’s legacy amid Ruto’s tiff

“Kenyans will remember I was Vice President to Kibaki; that is when ‘we’ built the Thika Highway,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper boss’s utterances come after attacks by President William Ruto that he has failed the Ukambani people in developing important infrastructures, such as roads, during his tenure as Vice President.

Speaking on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Tobong’u Lore, Lodwar, Turkana County, he said the road was built after he and former President Uhuru Kenyatta assumed office following the 2013 General Election. He said the government has records to show when and under whose leadership the project was implemented.

The Head of State accused Kalonzo of misleading Kenyans by taking credit for a project he did not complete. He said the facts are clear and available, adding that Kenyans are informed and cannot be deceived about major public works.

“He is claiming that he launched the road from Kibwezi to Mbondoni. I want to tell him to look for fools; there are no fools in Kenya anymore,” Ruto said.

“That road was not built by him. It was built by Uhuru and me when we took over the government, and we have the facts.”

Ruto continued with his onslaught that Kalonzo has been in politics for about 50 years, a claim the Wiper leader disputed, saying his career spans 40 years.

He said the difference did not change the substance of his argument. He questioned Kalonzo’s record, especially on infrastructure development, and challenged him to explain why key roads in his home area remained in poor condition despite decades in leadership.

“He says it is not 50 years but 40 years. Are 40 years just two days?” Ruto asked. “In 40 years, how many years do you need to plan a road to your own home?”

Kalonzo fires back

Amid the attack from Ruto, who has been extending a charm offensive for the Ukambani bigwig to join his camp ahead of the 2027 polls, Kalonzo once again defended himself from the attacks for not constructing the road linking to his home in Tseikuru.

He said the late Kibaki’s legacy lives beyond generations and forms part of his success as a political leader.

“The work ‘we’ did in South Sudan, we realised under the CPA, which was signed here in Nairobi under President Kibaki again, which gave birth to the Republic of South Sudan,” Kalonzo insisted.

“Ask yourself, why would these people keep electing one man called Kalonzo Musyoka from 1985?”

Kalonzo reiterates claims that General Ogolla was targeted

Wiper Party Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has once again revisited the untimely death of former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, maintaining that the demise was a deliberate targeted action and not a mere accident.

In an interview with a local TV station on Sunday, December 21, 2025, Kalonzo stuck to his earlier convictions that there was an elaborate plan to eliminate the general in a wider scheme of targeting succession in the military top brass.

‘Taken out’

“I maintain that general Ogolla was taken out. How do you fly the commander general of the Kenyan Defence Force in an 80-year-old aircraft to go and inspect a primary school under construction in a bandit-infested area?” he posed.

Kalonzo made the remarks while decrying the increased militarisation by Ruto’s government, which he claims is gradually turning Kenya into a police state.

The opposition leader further pointed out the existence of shoddy undertakings around the military recruitment processes.

We have a very professional army, and my message to Ruto is he can mess around with anything but not the Tonje rules that govern succession in the military,” he added.

Kalonzo demands inquiry

He lamented about what he termed as an unprecedented breach of security for the departed CDF while questioning his last assignment before his death.

“The following are the key questions that Kenyans need answers to:

“1. Is it routine for the CDF to inspect classroom construction, or was it a directive from somewhere?

“2. Was it normal for him to be in a chopper with so many other military personnel?

“3. Was this his designated chopper, and if not where was his designated chopper?

“These are some of the urgent questions that must be answered, and Kenyans deserve answers. We therefore call a time-bound public inquiry, and no effort or resources should be spared, including securing the services of international experts or investigators to get to the bottom of this matter, as it raises grave concerns,” Kalonzo said.
