Dr. Ida Odinga, the wife of former ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, has hinted to her insiders she intends to contest the ODM Party Leader position during next year’s party National Delegates Conference (NDC).
Mrs Odinga has been a pillar of the ODM Party where her word has mostly been as consequential as that of her late husband, the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.
She has built many careers in ODM, particularly of ODM Party women leaders, and will be starting the race with the advantage of a party insider.
Her announcement has sent shockwaves in ODM circles, presenting a challenge to those who had backed and installed her brother-in-law, Dr. Oburu Odinga.
It is now doubtful whether Oburu will contest against her, with news that within the Odinga family, she has the support of her influential sister-in-law, Ruth Odinga.
Mrs Odinga is also said to enjoy the support of ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Deputy Party Leaders Godfrey Osotai and Abdulswamad Nassir, her daughter Winnie and several Luo MPs.
