During a town hall meeting in Baltimore, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was publicly challenged by a Gen Z Kenyan who dismissed his tribal politics as outdated and harmful to national unity.
The Gen Z cautioned that his constant focus on defending Mt. Kenya would only provoke other regions to retreat into tribal camps, opening the door for President Ruto to win again.
Gachagua responded by blaming Ruto for the tribalism narrative, but failed to present any national or inclusive political vision that resonates with today’s youth.
Kenya’s Gen Z, shaped by the 2024 protests, is demanding issue-based leadership—and Gachagua’s tribal strategy is increasingly irrelevant in their eyes.
