Gachagua’s Grand Delusion: Misleading Mt Kenya with a Phantom 2027 Bid

He was impeached, disgraced, and barred from office. Yet yesterday in Kipipiri, Rigathi Gachagua re-emerged, quoting scripture and claiming prophecy, declaring himself the man to “take Ruto home” in 2027.

But behind the pulpit theatre, the truth is bare: Gachagua cannot run. Impeached in October 2024 for corruption, tribalism, and constitutional violations, Article 75(3) disqualifies him from elective office. Precedents like Mike Sonko’s case confirm it. His “presidential bid” is a mirage.

Still, Gachagua’s script has a purpose. Even as defections cripple his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), he pleads with Mt Kenya voters to elect “soldiers” – MPs loyal to him – not to serve their people but to act as bargaining chips in 2027. It is not leadership. It is self-preservation disguised as prophecy.

This is not new. In 2022, he urged voters to back MPs who would stand with William Ruto. Those same MPs later impeached him. Now he recycles the line, asking voters to punish his former allies and reward new loyalists. The cycle strips Mt Kenya of true representation, reducing constituencies into pawns in Gachagua’s personal war. Were MPs elected to serve him or their people?

His latest call for “opposition unity” rings hollow when his own party cannot field a candidate in a by-election. Gachagua is not building a movement; he is clinging to relevance.

Mt Kenya deserves leaders of vision and integrity – not recycled scripts, false prophecies, and phantom bids from a fallen kingpin.
