Gachagua Defies Murkomen’s DCI Order, Insists US Senate Will Handle Ruto–Al-Shabaab Allegations

A political storm is brewing after Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly rejected an order from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over explosive remarks linking President William Ruto to Al-Shabaab during his recent US visit.

Murkomen, speaking at the Keiyo South Economic Empowerment Program, accused Gachagua of politicizing sensitive national security matters for personal gain, claiming he was leveraging terrorism allegations to boost his political standing among Kenyans abroad.

“As soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen declared.

However, Gachagua remains defiant. He insists the matter is already in the hands of the American Senate and sees no reason to cooperate with Kenyan authorities. “I am not talking ill of my country, just speaking the truth. Kenya is a beautiful country with good people, but with poor leadership,” he said.

The former DP questioned why he should assist in any investigations when, according to him, the Kenyan government has not initiated any probe against the President. Instead, he urged the US Senate to avoid imposing sanctions on Kenya as a whole, and to focus any punitive measures directly on President Ruto over alleged Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Al-Shabaab, and China trade links.

The remarks have sparked fierce debate. Critics accuse Gachagua of tarnishing Kenya’s image on the international stage, while his supporters hail him as a fearless voice against corruption and mismanagement.

With both camps digging in, the standoff underscores deepening political divisions and raises critical questions about how Kenya balances national security, political accountability, and international diplomacy in an increasingly tense political climate.
