Bomet County has been rocked by outrage after a 14-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by a priest, leaving him hospitalised with severe injuries. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with locals demanding justice and accountability from both the authorities and the church.
The victim, a Grade 8 pupil, was reportedly living with the priest at his residence within the church when the attack occurred. According to witnesses, efforts to assist the boy immediately after the assault proved difficult due to the intense pain he was in. Villagers eventually managed to secure a motorbike to rush him to a nearby hospital.
His father revealed that the assault stemmed from an undisclosed mistake, describing the ordeal as heartbreaking. He noted that his son had frequently spent time at the parish, making the incident all the more painful for the family.
Doctors at the facility where the teenager was admitted confirmed he sustained visible injuries. A medical officer who attended to him said the boy had head and hand injuries, alongside blood clots in his eyes.
“He was in a bad state, with soft tissue injuries on the head and redness in the eyes. He received first aid and is now under close medical supervision. His condition is stable, but he is still recovering,” the medic reported.
The assault has triggered anger across the community, with residents accusing the priest of abusing his position of trust. Local leaders and parents have strongly condemned the attack, warning that such acts risk eroding the confidence parishioners place in clergy.
Community members are now calling on investigative authorities to act swiftly, while urging the church to intervene decisively and ensure that accountability is upheld.
