Kenya’s Under-20 wonderkid Aldrine Kibet, has signed with the Spanish football club Celta Vigo in La Liga.
According to media reports, the young player has completed a €6 million (Ksh 864 million) transfer to the Spanish La Liga side.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris said the move by the 18-year-old marks a major milestone in his football journey.
“Kenyan wonderkid Aldrine Kibet has completed a €6 million transfer to Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo. The 18-year-old U20 star’s move marks a major milestone in his football journey, elevating him from local hero to a rising force on the global stage,” read part of her statement.
Sports journalist Ole Teya said, “Celta Vigo are on the verge of winning hearts in Baringo and Kitale with Aldrine Kibet’s expected signing. Kibet may have arrived in Kitale as just a student, but he’s now a local icon, his presence alone is enough to bring business to a standstill.”
A former student at St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale, Kibet joined Nastic Academy in September 2023 alongside Kenya U20 captain Amos Wanjala. The duo continued their education while receiving professional football training in Spain. They briefly returned to Kenya in December 2023 to represent the national U18 team at the CECAFA Championship, where Kenya finished second after a final loss to Uganda.
In 2024, he played a key role in Kenya’s qualification for the U20 AFCON, scoring five goals during the qualifiers in Tanzania. He featured in the final tournament, where Kenya exited at the group stage.
Speaking in a 2024 interview, the midfielder shared his long-term dream of playing in Spain and his ambition of one day joining Barcelona.
