Jubilee Party presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i announced on Wednesday the party will launch mobilization tours across Kenya’s Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 election, setting up a direct challenge to President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
Speaking at a funeral in Kandara, Murang’a county, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary said Jubilee would return to its political heartland to reconnect with voters who abandoned the party in the 2022 polls.
“In a few days you will see all of us…walking around the towns and villages speaking to our fellow citizens,” Matiang’i told mourners, saying he would lead a delegation including Jubilee Deputy Leader Jeremiah Kioni and former MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.
Matiang’i told Murang’a residents his presidential bid is a call to service rather than a quest for power.
“I am seeking the presidency because I want to serve the people of Kenya. Our country faces many challenges, and we must come together, unite and work collectively to find lasting solutions,” he said.
“I am not seeking power for myself; I am offering myself to serve. If given the opportunity, I will be your servant, listening to you, working with you and putting the interests of Kenyans first.”
The Jubilee Deputy leader also urged politicians to avoid divisive rhetoric, saying the pursuit of power should not leave the country divided.
