President William Ruto has donated Ksh1 million to support the family of the late Susan Nabwire, who was brutally killed by her husband in Pipeline, Nairobi, on August 13.
According to Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, the money will be placed in a trust fund to cater for the education of Nabwire’s one-year-old daughter. Passaris made the announcement during Nabwire’s burial in Busia on Saturday, September 13.
“President William Ruto extended a helping hand with Ksh1 million, now set aside for an education trust for Susan’s one-year-old daughter,” Passaris said. She, however, stressed that financial support alone was not enough, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite the case. “But money cannot replace justice. The DCI must act swiftly. The key witness, a maid who was also violated, is living in fear. Families deserve closure, and survivors deserve protection,” she added.
The burial ceremony was attended by several leaders, including Busia Woman Representative Catherine Amayo, Principal Secretary for Gender Anne Wang’ombe, PS for Economic Planning and Treasury Bonface Makokha, and Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire.
Details of the August 13 incident indicate that Nabwire’s husband, a 44-year-old former police officer, allegedly attacked her after demanding her phone, passwords, and mobile money PIN. He reportedly struck her with an axe, strangled her with a rope, and later stabbed her before concealing her body under the bed. The suspect then allegedly turned on their house help, sexually assaulting her, while leaving the lifeless body, the maid, and the couple’s toddler locked inside the house.
The suspect was arrested on August 26 and is currently being held at Embakasi Police Station. Investigations are ongoing as Nabwire’s family and leaders continue to demand justice.
