UDA MP Reveals Ruto, Gachagua Reconciliation Plans Post 2027

Gatanga Constituency Member of Parliament Edward Muriu has revealed that the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will work with President William Ruto if he emerges the winner in 2027.

Speaking to one of the local radio stations on Sunday, August 18, 2025, Muriu used the Nyanza region as a prime example of how unity gives political communities bargaining power.

Muriu explained that Nyanza’s strength since 2002 has been the ability to speak with one voice through its regional party.

According to him, this cohesion has often allowed the region to secure entry into government after elections and negotiate for development projects.

“Ruto has his party called UDA. We have our party called DCP where we discuss policies and plan things like 1, 2, 3, 4 and things are done.

“We must admit that the strength of the Nyanza region since 2002 is because they have their party, and that is because when they fail an election, they are invited to join the government, and negotiate for projects. This is because they speak in one voice,” he said.

The legislator added that Mt Kenya could strengthen its position by consolidating under the Democratic for Citizens’ Party (DCP), which he described as a viable political vehicle for regional unity.

“Do you think that in case things do not go as we wish and remain as one voice, Ruto will be able to govern without us? Why don’t we have DCP as our Mt Kenya region for future bargaining?” Muriu posed.

His remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing speculation about the relationship between Ruto and his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, who has recently kept a low profile in political debates.
