Turkana boss Josephat Nanok says there are political consultations between DP William Ruto’s camp and other national leaders, some of which he has chaired. Nanok, who is currently on his final term as the Governor of Turkana revealed outgoing governors have a role to play in deciding the country’s succession politics, and the meetings have been with over 20 county chiefs.

”Political consultations are ongoing. We have been holding consultations on behalf of the Deputy President with several governors. To discuss about the future and the recovery of our economy given the effects of Covid-19. The discussions have also centered on national politics and governance structure,” Nanok said.

Nanok, a former ODM Party Vice Chairman, said those involved in the talks will come out at the right time. Saying, there have been intimidations to quite a number of the leaders but they will emerge as time goes by.

”I will not give names at the moment. But it’s quite a number. It is a fact that I have expressed that in the coming elections I will be supporting the Deputy President. As I have said, the political players are discussing now.”

On the much publicised meeting DP Ruto and Governor Oparanya, Nanok said the discussions have been happening for sometime. According to him, Governor Nanok, who is also the ODM Deputy Leader, was planning to dump Raila Odinga for DP Ruto.

”Political alliances keep shifting with interest and focus. Up to 2019, I was the Vice Chairman of ODM. I shifted focus and I said out publicly, that I would shift focus in 2022. I also believe what is driving Governor Oparanya and many other leaders out there is also about shifting alliances and shifting interest,” he said.
