President Uhuru to determine Odinga’s running mate

President Uhuru Kenyatta will play a key role in the decision to pick a running mate for ODM boss Raila Odinga in 2022.

Speaking to a local publication on Friday, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu disclosed President Uhuru will still be active politically even after his term ends, and a running mate from Mt Kenya must be someone ready to work with the fourth president.

”Uhuru will continue being influential politically for several years to come. It is a lot like what happened with the Kalenjin. Despite Moi leaving office, he continued to lead the community politically for several years while in retirement -until Ruto stepped up,” the Kielweke founder said.

”This decision will largely depend on who Uhuru is comfortable to work with. Because it is a negotiated position dependent on many other factors, not just popularity,” he added.

The MP, a staunch Uhuru footsoldier also told those aspiring to be president how important the BBI was to the people of Mt Kenya and that it was a noble initiative that failed due to selfishness.

”That agenda will not go away and it is our generation of politicians who will implement it. It is like the push for return of multiparty. It was not a matter of if but when. BBI will come through – especially on the issue of one-man one vote and constitutionalizing county allocation,” the MP said.

Currently, the names of Narck leader Martha Karua, Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Nderitu Mureithi (Laikipia), CS Peter Munya, former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth and business mogul James Mwangi have been flouted as individuals being considered for the slot.
