Amani National Congress (ANC) party and its leadership has distanced itself from Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s presence at the Eldoret Sports Club in an event Deputy President William Ruto was being handed over to Kenyans by his community for the August presidency.

In a statement on Saturday afternoon, ANC Secretary-General Simon Gakiru said the party had not sent anybody to represent either the party or the Party Leader in the said function.

”The ANC party would like to disassociate itself with the activities taking place at Eldoret Sports Club Grounds where UDA Party is holding its rally. ANC has not sent anybody to represent either the party or the Party Leader in the said function,” SG Gakiru’s statement read in part.

Speaking in Eldoret on Friday, Senator Malala said he was attending the function because of Musalia Mudavadi’s recent remarks of upholding freedom of association and that ANC was also looking for more friends.

”Mudavadi said we uphold the freedom of association and I am here today because of him. As ANC, we are also looking for friends beyond us,” Senator Malala said.

However, ANC party has trashed Malala’s remarks saying they do not reflect the true position of their party leader.

”The official party position should only come from Party Leader or the Secretary-General,” SG Gakiru added.
