A Kenyan university student who murdered his entire family was found incompetent to stand trial when he appeared before a Kiambu court.
The mental findings presented by a psychiatrist established that the defendant, Lawrence Warunge was not fit to stand trial.
The court ordered the accused man to be remanded for a further 30 days, after which a second psychiatric examination will be carried out.
Chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi ordered Warunge to be held in police custody in Nairobi until March 1, 2021, when the matter will be mentioned.
The suspect’s girlfriend, who was also detained, was released after she reached a deal to become a state witness against the university student.
The 22-year-old University student has reportedly confessed to killing his father, mother, brother, nephew, and a worker.
Postmortem results confirmed that all the victims had succumbed to multiple stab wounds likely to have been inflicted by the same person.
