Joho consolidates Coast base under ODM with eyes on the top seat

Coast region leaders including governors, senators, MPs and MSAs will next week endorse Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for presidency under the ODM Party ticket. Joho, who is also the ODM Party Deputy Leader will meet the leaders at the Vipingo Ridge where he is also expected to formally declare his intention, in presence of the leaders.

There are reports the Mombasa governor has also managed to forge a working relationship with Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, who has decamped from the DP’s camp, and even skipped a meeting Ruto had with the region’s leaders last week.

Yesterday, Governor Joho said a dream the ODM Party has been chasing for years is close to being actualised and vowed to continue backing the Handshake.

“I’ve had numerous discussions with the former PM, which have left me convinced that the vision and dream that we have chased unsuccessfully over the years is around the corner. His brother, the President, shares that belief very strongly,” the Mombasa county chief said.

Apart from Joho, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has also declared his intentions to run for the top seat under the orange party ticket. Both Joho and Oparanya are expected to fight it out with Raila Odinga for the 2022 presidential ticket.
