The Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC) has verified IEBC verified 1, 140, 845 BBI signatures and now the has been sent to the counties for the second phase, on the road to a plebiscite.
Article 257 of the Kenyan Constitution indicates once the electoral body is satisfied the initiative has the backing of at least one million registered voters, the body will hand over the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 to the Counties, where it should be approved by at least 24 counties.
If it passes in the 24 counties, the Bill proceeds to the National Assembly as well as the Senate for discussion and later to the people.
